Laura Cannell a UK based composer and performer whose music draws on the emotional influences of the landscape, while exploring the spaces between ancient and experimental music to create a sound that is rooted in, but not tethered to the past. She has been hailed as a visionary composer and performed who has significantly contributed to the evolving landscape of experimental and contemporary music. Born with an innate passion for exploring the boundaries of instrumental sound, Laura has developed a distinctive voice within the contemporary music scene.

Following the release of her latest solo album ‘Midwinter Processionals’ in December 2023, Laura has recently embarked on a year long series of monthly releases under the banner of ‘A Year of Lore’, which is written, recorded and released each month.

Laura appeared as a guest on BBC Radio 3’s ‘This Classical Life’, she was featured on BBC Radio 6Music’s Scene Sounds, was a guest on the popular folklore podcast ‘Folklands’. One of her compositions ‘The Gatherers’ was re-imagined and performed in a sold out performance at the London Coliseum in a concert curated by broadcaster Elizabeth Alker (BBC Radio 3) and the composer Max Richter.

In 2024 Laura is a Musician in Residence at the Norfolk and Norwich Festival, and recently completed an 8 part vocal commission for the renaissance specialists The Marian Consort which will be performed throughout Europe in 2024.

She has released 8 critically acclaimed solo albums, including ‘Antiphony of the Trees’ (2022). She is regularly broadcast on the BBC and international radio, including BBC Radio 3, 4 and 6Music. She has performed live in concert on Late Junction, In Tune, Hear and Now, The Early Music Show and recorded a session at the iconic Maida Vale studios. In 2020 and 2021 she collaborated with the writer/comedian Stewart Lee and cellist Kate Ellis (Crash Ensemble) on her 12 EP series and album ‘These Feral Lands’.

Recent projects include composing for Amazon Audible’s immersive audio book ‘The Woman in Black’, Latitude Festival, residencies and performances at Snape Maltings. Laura has performed extensively throughout the UK and Europe, including: LSO St Lukes, Unsound Poland, Flow Helsinki, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, tours to Norway, Holland and Denmark, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, written for the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and solo at The Barbican and Royal Festival Hall. 

Laura has been featured in The Guardian, The Financial Times, The Wire Magazine and has toured and recorded with the cellist Lori Goldston (Earth, Nirvana) the duo have an album out this autumn. Her music has also been used on TV and Film including the BBC series ‘What We Do In The Shadows’, as well as for Netflix and internationally. Her music has also made it’s way onto the catwalks of London and Paris Fashion Weeks, being used by designers Comme De Garcon and Bora Aksu. She has also performed for a special preview for Parisian fashion house Hermés.
